I know charity shops aren't exactly glamorous but Hull has some absolute gems if you're willing to dig around. I've found designer stuff for a couple of quid, vintage clothes that would cost fifty pounds in a trendy shop in Leeds, and more books than I could ever read.
The ones on Chanterlands Avenue are consistently good. There's a big British Heart Foundation that gets some quality donations, probably because the Avenues area has a lot of professionals clearing out nice stuff. Found a proper leather jacket in there for eight quid last month.
Princes Avenue has a couple of smaller ones that are worth checking. The stock turns over quickly so it's worth popping in every week or two. Newland Avenue has one that's particularly good for books and vinyl records if you're into that.
Beverley Road charity shops are more hit and miss but when they hit they really hit. Found a complete set of Penguin classics once for about fifteen pence each. Nearly cried.
It's also just a nice way to spend an hour wandering around. Costs nothing unless you find something and you're supporting a good cause. Win win.
Anyone else a charity shop hunter? Where are your best finds?
