Hull’s nightlife gets overlooked massively. People assume there’s nothing going on but they clearly haven’t been out in Hull on a Saturday night recently.
My usual route starts on Newland Avenue for a few early doors pints — Larkin’s or The Gardeners Arms are both solid choices. Then head into town for the main event.
Humber Street area is where it’s at now. The bars down there have a completely different vibe to the Princes Avenue strip. More cocktail bars and craft beer places, less of the chain pub feel. Humber Street Distillery does incredible gin cocktails.
For a proper night out with dancing, Ku Bar on Princes Avenue is always lively, and Attic on Beverley Road has some good DJ nights. If you want something more alternative, Welly Club is a Hull legend — been going since the 80s and still putting on great nights.
The Old Town pubs are perfect for a more chilled evening. Ye Olde White Harte into The Lion & Key into whatever’s still open. Quality.
Where does everyone go these
days?

Humber Street has completely changed the game. Even five years ago there was nothing there after dark. Now it’s probably the best area for a night out in Hull. Welly is a legend though, proper institution. Some of my best nights out have been in that place. The key to Hull nightlife is that it’s cheap compared to other cities — you can have a proper good night out for about £40.
