I’m looking to buy my first house in Hull and I’m realising there’s a lot more to it than just picking a house on Rightmove. Anyone who’s been through the process recently got any advice?
My budget is around £140-160K which seems to get a decent two or three bed in most parts of Hull. I’m looking at Anlaby, west Hull, and maybe Cottingham if I can stretch.
Specific questions I’ve got: Are there any areas to avoid? What solicitors do people recommend in Hull? Is it worth getting a full structural survey or is the basic one enough? Any new build developments worth looking at?
Any tips from people who’ve bought recently would be massively appreciated. This whole process is doing my head
in.

Congrats on getting to this stage — buying your first place is exciting! For that budget in Hull you’ve got loads of options which is the beauty of living here. My advice: always get a full structural survey, not just the basic one. Costs a bit more but it’s saved people I know from buying money pits. For solicitors, Andrew Jackson on the marina are solid. Also check the flood risk maps — some parts of east Hull are in flood zones which affects insurance costs. Areas around Anlaby and west Hull are generally fine for that.
