One of the best legacies of City of Culture is the street art scattered around Hull. There are murals and installations all over the place but unless you know where to look you'll walk right past most of them.
The fish mural on Humber Street is probably the most photographed one. It's massive and colourful and perfectly captures Hull's relationship with the sea. There are smaller pieces tucked away in alleys and side streets throughout the Old Town that are equally impressive.
The mural of Lillian Bilocca near Hessle Road is powerful. A tribute to the woman who campaigned for trawler safety after the triple trawler disaster. If you don't know her story look it up because she's one of Hull's greatest heroes.
Over near the Fruit Market there are several pieces on the sides of warehouses that change regularly as new artists are commissioned. It gives the area a constantly evolving feel.
I started walking around with my phone taking photos of every piece I could find and I've got about forty so far. Someone should put together a proper walking trail map of Hull's street art because it would make a brilliant afternoon activity for visitors and locals alike.
Has anyone else noticed specific pieces around the city?
