Took the kids to East Park on Saturday and it struck me how lucky we are to have it. A massive park with a boating lake, an animal enclosure, playgrounds, a splash pad in summer, and loads of open space. All completely free.
The animal corner has rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and a few other bits. My youngest could spend all day there just watching the animals and she's happy. The older one prefers the adventure playground which is big enough to keep a ten year old entertained for a couple of hours.
We brought a picnic and sat by the lake watching the boats and the ducks and it was genuinely lovely. Didn't spend a penny. In a city where people are constantly told they're poor and deprived we've got this brilliant green space that anyone can enjoy regardless of income. That matters.
The only downside is parking which can be a nightmare on a sunny weekend. Get there early or walk if you can. Other than that it's hard to fault.
What other free days out would you recommend in Hull? I'm always looking for stuff to do with the kids that doesn't cost a fortune.
