This is a strange one but I wanted to share it. My grandad supported Hull City his entire life. Went to Boothferry Park every other Saturday from the 1950s until they moved to the KC. When he passed away in 2003 he wanted his ashes scattered on the Boothferry Park pitch. So we did.
A few years later they demolished the ground and built houses on the site. So technically my grandad is now under someone's living room or garden in a housing estate off Boothferry Road. I've thought about knocking on the door and explaining the situation but I'm not sure how you start that conversation.
I know he's not the only one. Loads of families scattered ashes at Boothferry Park over the decades. There must be hundreds of Hull City fans resting under those houses. It's strange and a bit sad but also somehow fitting. The ground might be gone but the people who loved it are still there.
Every time I drive past the estate I think about him. I wonder if the people living there know what was underneath before they built their houses. Probably not. But for those of us who remember, Boothferry Park will always be there even if you can't see it anymore.
Does anyone else have a connection to the old ground that goes beyond just watching football there?
