Every club has them. Players who by any objective measure were not very good but for some reason you absolutely adored. The cult heroes. The ones who gave everything and had nothing but you loved them for trying.
I'll start with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Could barely move by the time he got to us, looked like he was running through treacle, and his touch was like a brick wrapped in concrete. But every time he headed the ball you just knew something was going to happen. The man was a human battering ram and he gave everything he had which admittedly wasn't much by that point but the effort was there.
Jimmy Bullard is another one. Was absolutely brilliant for about three months and then his knee went again. But those three months were magic. The penalty celebration at the Etihad where he recreated Phil Brown's team talk is one of the greatest moments in Hull City history. Worth his entire wages just for that.
Jozy Altidore. Couldn't score in a cardboard box. Missed chances that my nan would have buried. But he worked hard, the fans loved him, and he seemed to genuinely enjoy being in Hull which is more than you can say for half the loanees we've had over the years.
Who's yours? And no saying Windass because he was actually good.
