Set my alarm for five thirty on Saturday and drove down to the Humber Bridge to watch the sunrise. Honestly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in Hull and it cost absolutely nothing.
Got there about ten minutes before sunrise and walked halfway across from the Hull side. There was nobody else there. The sky went from dark blue to orange to pink and then the sun came up over Lincolnshire and the whole estuary turned golden. The bridge cables were catching the light and it looked like something out of a film.
Stood there for about twenty minutes just watching. A couple of ships passed underneath and the sound of the water was the only thing you could hear. No traffic, no people, no phones. Just the bridge and the river and the sky.
I know it sounds cheesy but moments like that remind me why I love living here. You don't need to go to the Lake District or Scotland for beautiful scenery. It's right on your doorstep.
If you've never done it get yourself down there one morning. You won't regret it.

Did this last Sunday after reading your post and you weren't kidding. Got there about quarter to six and the colours were insane. Pink and orange reflecting off the water with the bridge silhouetted against it. Took about thirty photos and none of them did it justice. One of those things you have to see in person. There were two other people there, a photographer with a massive tripod and a dog walker. That was it. Best kept secret in Hull.

I watched the sun come up over the Humber from the docks nearly every morning for thirty years when I was working. Never got tired of it. The bridge changed the skyline completely when it went up in 81 but the river itself has been beautiful for as long as anyone can remember. People think of the Humber as industrial and grey but at the right time of day it's genuinely stunning. Glad younger people are discovering what us old timers have known for decades.
