Just finished walking the Wolds Way last weekend. Started from Hessle and did it over four days all the way to Filey. Absolutely knackered but what an experience.
If you live in Hull and you haven't explored the Wolds you're missing out. It's right on our doorstep and the scenery is gorgeous. Rolling chalk hills, quiet villages, proper English countryside without the Lake District crowds and prices.
Day one from Hessle to South Cave was my favourite. You start at the Humber Bridge which is obviously stunning and then climb up through the country park into the Wolds. By lunchtime you're in the middle of nowhere with views for miles in every direction. It's hard to believe you're only 20 minutes from Hull.
The villages along the way are cracking too. Stopped in Goodmanham for a pint at the Goodmanham Arms which is a proper country pub. Real ales, log fire, the works. Brough is another good stop with a few decent pubs.
You don't have to do the whole 79 miles obviously. Even just a day walk from Hessle to South Cave or around the Millington Dale area is class for a Sunday afternoon.
Anyone else into walking around East Yorkshire? Any routes you'd recom
mend?
