We've all got horror stories. Grounds that were so bad they made you question every life choice that led you to standing in that spot on that day.
For me it's the old Withdean Stadium when Brighton were playing there. It wasn't even a football ground, it was an athletics track with temporary stands plonked around it. We were miles from the pitch, sitting on what felt like garden furniture, in the rain, watching Hull lose to a team playing in a glorified running track. The walk back to the bus afterwards was the longest of my life.
Gillingham is up there too. Priestfield on a cold Tuesday in November. The ground itself is fine but getting there from Hull is a nightmare. Five hours of driving for a 0 0 draw in front of about four thousand people. The away end was basically a shed with seats. My feet were so cold I couldn't feel them by half time and the Bovril tasted like dishwater.
Colchester away in the early 2000s. Layer Road. I don't even want to talk about it. If you were there you understand. If you weren't, count yourself lucky.
The beauty of supporting Hull is that we've been everywhere. Conference to Premier League. We've seen the worst grounds in the country and the best. What's your bottom of the barrel?
