Everyone always mentions the same places when food in Hull comes up. Bob Carver's, Doram, Ye Olde White Harte. And yeah they're all great. But I want to talk about the places that fly under the radar.
Thieving Harry's courtyard. Most people know it as a coffee shop but the food there is properly good. The toasties and the cakes are some of the best in Hull. Sit in the courtyard on a sunny morning and you'd think you were in some trendy part of Bristol, not the Old Town.
Marrakech on Princes Avenue. Tiny little Moroccan place that most people walk past without noticing. The tagine is incredible. Properly authentic, generous portions, and it's about twelve quid for a main course. Absolutely criminal that it doesn't get more attention.
The Sailmakers near the marina. Again mostly known as a pub but the Sunday roast there is outstanding. Proper thick gravy, yorkshire puddings the size of your head, and the beef is always cooked perfectly. Book in advance because it fills up.
Zero on Humber Street. Small plates and cocktails in the Fruit Market area. The kind of place that would charge double in Leeds or Manchester. The tuna tartare starter is unreal.
What hidden gems have you lot found? I'm always looking for somewhere new to
try.
