Ipswich Town 1–0 Hull City – Post Match Reaction & Player Ratings
Well… that was frustrating. Hull City leave Portman Road with nothing after a narrow 1–0 defeat to Ipswich. It was one of those games where we were in it for long spells, but once again lacked that cutting edge when it mattered.
Ipswich took their chance, we didn’t.
Match Reaction
The Tigers started fairly bright and had some decent spells of possession, but the final ball just wasn’t there tonight. Too many attacks broke down around the box and we rarely forced their keeper into real trouble.
Ipswich, on the other hand, did what good teams do at home. They stayed compact, waited for their moment and punished us when the opportunity came.
After the goal we tried to push forward, but the urgency only really appeared in the last 15 minutes. By then Ipswich were happy to slow the game down and manage the lead.
Another game where you feel a point was there for the taking… but we go home empty-handed.
Player Ratings
Goalkeeper
Allsop – 6/10
Didn’t have loads to do. No major mistakes but couldn’t do much about the goal.
Defence
Coyle – 6/10
Worked hard down the right but the delivery into the box was inconsistent.
Jones – 6/10
Solid enough defensively but distribution could have been better.
Greaves – 7/10
Probably our best defender on the night. Calm and won several key duels.
Vinagre – 6/10
Got forward a few times but struggled to create anything clear.
Midfield
Seri – 7/10
Tried to dictate the tempo and was one of the few players looking to move the ball quickly.
Morton – 6/10
Worked hard but didn’t influence the game enough in attacking areas.
Slater – 6/10
Typical work rate, lots of pressing, but lacked quality on the ball tonight.
Attack
Philogene – 6/10
Had flashes but Ipswich doubled up on him well.
Delap – 5/10
A quiet night. Barely had a clear chance.
Tufan – 6/10
Tried to make things happen but couldn’t find the killer pass.
Subs
Traoré – 6/10
Added some energy when he came on.
Connolly – 5/10
Couldn’t really get into the game.
Final Thoughts
It wasn’t a terrible performance, but it wasn’t good enough either. These are the kinds of away games where you have to grind out at least a point if you want to stay in the promotion race.
Too predictable going forward and not ruthless enough when we had half chances.
Still plenty of games left this season, but we need to respond quickly.
What did everyone think of the performance tonight?
