I know buying is the dream but for now I’m renting and trying to find a decent place in Hull. The rental market here is actually quite competitive, especially near the university.
I’m looking for a two-bed flat or house, ideally in the Avenues area or west Hull. Budget is about £550-650 a month which I think should be doable.
Has anyone got experience with letting agents in Hull? Some of them have terrible reviews online but I don’t know if that’s just angry people being angry or if they’re genuinely bad.
Also, any areas to avoid for renting? I know some parts of Hull have issues with antisocial behaviour and I’d rather know before I sign a 12-month lease.
Any advice from fellow renters would be gr
eat.

For that budget in the Avenues you should be able to find something decent. Beware that a lot of Avenues properties are older Victorian houses converted into flats and some of them are draughty in winter. Check the EPC rating before you commit. For letting agents, I’ve had good experiences with Woolley & Parks and Oscars. Avoid the big chains if you can — the local ones tend to be more responsive. Also check Rightmove and OpenRent directly as some landlords list privately to avoid agent fees.
