Spring Bank. Is it underrated or is it rough?

Spring Bank is one of those roads that divides opinion. Some people think it's brilliant for its diversity and independent businesses. Other people think it's gone downhill and avoid it. Where do you lot stand?
Personally I think it's one of the most interesting streets in Hull. You've got Polish shops next to Kurdish restaurants next to African food stores next to old school English cafes. The variety of food alone makes it worth visiting. Where else in Hull can you get fresh baklava, Polish sausage, and a proper English fry up all within a hundred metre walk?
Bob Carver's is there which automatically makes it important. Some of the Eastern European supermarkets are genuinely great for ingredients you can't find in Tesco. And there are a couple of really good barbers if you know which ones to go to.
Yeah it's a bit rough around the edges in places. Some of the buildings need work and there are one or two dodgy spots. But that's true of most inner city roads. I'd rather have a street with character and real life than another bland row of chain shops.
What do you think? Is Spring Bank a hidden gem or somewhere you avoid?

Both. That's the honest answer. Parts of Spring Bank are brilliant and parts of it need work. The diversity is what makes it special. You won't find a more multicultural street anywhere in East Yorkshire. The food alone justifies visiting. But some of the buildings are in a state and certain stretches can feel a bit iffy after dark. I remember when it was the main shopping street for west Hull. Every second shop was something useful. It's changed a lot but the character is still there if you look for it.

As someone who's new to Hull I find Spring Bank fascinating. It reminds me of some of the more interesting high streets in east London. Edgware Road vibes almost. The Kurdish restaurant about halfway down does the best kebab I've had outside of London. The Eastern European shops are great for bread and pastries. Yeah it's not the prettiest street but it's real and it's got life to it which is more than you can say for a lot of sanitised city centre developments.
