Tuesday night game. Dark outside. Walking down Anlaby Road towards the ground with hundreds of other fans. You can hear the buzz building, everyone's pace quickens slightly, and then you turn the corner and there they are. The floodlights of the MKM glowing against the sky.
I get this feeling every single time and it never fades. There's something about seeing those lights that makes everything else disappear. Work stress, bills, whatever's going on in your life, it all drops away the moment you see that glow. For the next two hours nothing matters except what happens on that pitch.
My dad used to say the same thing about Boothferry Park. He'd walk down Boothferry Road and see the lights and feel like a kid again. Different ground, different era, same feeling. That's the thing about football. The stadiums change, the players change, the managers come and go. But that feeling of walking towards the lights on a cold night never changes.
It's the reason we do this. Not the results, not the league position, not the transfer window drama. It's that walk. That moment. Those lights.
Tell me I'm not the only one who feels this.
