The Deep has been Hull’s flagship attraction since it opened in 2002, and it’s still the first thing most people mention when you say “things to do in Hull.” But is it still worth the visit in 2026?
I took my kids last month and honestly, yes. The main tank is still absolutely stunning — watching the sharks and rays glide past never gets old. The penguin enclosure is always a hit with the little ones, and the exhibits have been updated since my last visit a couple of years ago.
The building itself is still impressive too. The architecture is iconic and the views from the top floor across the Humber are class on a clear day. You can see all the way to the bridge.
Price-wise, it’s not cheap for a family day out, but if you buy annual passes it works out much better. We got ours and we’ve already been three times this year. The kids love it and it’s a great backup plan when the weather’s rubbish.
Has anyone been recently? Any tips for making the most of a vi
sit?

Annual pass is the way to go, 100%. We got ours last year and it paid for itself after two visits. It’s also worth checking their website for event days — they do special feeding sessions and behind-the-scenes tours that are really good. My tip: go first thing on a weekday morning if you can. It’s dead quiet and you get the tanks practically to yourself.
