I've lived in Hull my entire life and the Old Town still amazes me every time I walk through it. And yet when people think of Hull they picture grey housing estates and the flyover. It's so frustrating.
The Old Town is properly historic. We're talking about streets that have been here since medieval times. The Land of Green Ginger might be the best street name in the entire country. The Holy Trinity Church is one of the largest parish churches in England and it's absolutely stunning inside. The old merchant houses on the High Street show you how important Hull used to be as a trading port.
Wilberforce House is right there too. William Wilberforce, the man who basically ended the slave trade, was born in Hull. That's massive historically and yet most people in this country have no idea.
And it's not just history. The Old Town has some of the best pubs in Hull, great little independent shops, art galleries, and the Minster Quarter is being developed into something really special. The whole area has this feel to it that you don't get anywhere else in the city.
I sometimes think Hull people take the Old Town for granted because we see it every day. But visitors are always blown away by it when you take them round. We should be shouting about it way more than we do.
What's everyone's favourite spot in the Old
Town?
