Right I'm going to gatekeep a little bit here but I think there are certain food experiences that every proper Hull person needs to have. If you haven't done all of these you need to sort your life out.
A pattie from any Hull chippy. Not a burger, not a fishcake. A pattie. Deep fried potato in batter. If you have to explain what a pattie is to someone they're not from Hull and that's the end of the conversation.
Fish and chips with chip spice from Bob Carver's. This is non negotiable. If you've lived in Hull for more than six months and haven't been to Bob Carver's I genuinely don't know what you're doing with your life.
A pint at Ye Olde White Harte sitting in the plotting parlour where they started the English Civil War. You're literally drinking in a room that changed the course of British history. The beer is good too.
A Bovril at the MKM on a freezing Tuesday night. There's nothing romantic about Bovril. It tastes like salty gravy water. But drinking it while watching Hull City play in the rain is a rite of passage and you will do it.
A bag of Hull Fair brandy snap. Once a year, always in October, and it tastes like childhood and nostalgia and slightly burnt sugar. If you've never had Hull Fair brandy snap you haven't lived.
What else should be on the list?
