The classic East Yorkshire suburb debate. If you’re looking for somewhere just outside Hull city centre with good schools and a family-friendly feel, these three always come up. But which is actually the best?
Anlaby: More affordable of the three, good transport links, big Sainsbury’s and other shops nearby. A bit more urban than the other two but you get more house for your money. The park is decent and it’s quick to get into town.
Beverley: The jewel of East Yorkshire. The Minster, the market, the races, the pubs — it’s essentially a small town with everything you need. But you pay a premium. Expect to pay £50-100K more than Anlaby for a similar property.
Cottingham: Sort of the middle ground. Village feel but close to Hull. Great pub scene (apparently the most pubs per square mile in England?), good schools, and the university campus is right there. Slightly cheaper than Beverley but more expensive than Anlaby.
We’re currently in Anlaby but thinking about Cottingham. Anyone made the move between these ar
