Since COVID I’ve been working from home most of the week but sometimes you need a change of scenery. I’ve been testing out Hull’s coffee shops as makeshift offices and here’s my report:
Bongo Bongo on Newland Avenue — My personal favourite. Great coffee, decent wifi, plenty of plug sockets, and they don’t give you dirty looks for nursing a flat white for two hours while bashing away on your laptop. The cake is excellent too which is dangerous for productivity.
Thieving Harry’s in the Old Town — Beautiful building, lovely coffee, but gets quite busy at lunchtime so best for morning sessions. The courtyard out back is a hidden gem in summer.
Cafe Gelato on Princes Avenue — Good coffee, relaxed vibe, and the gelato is a nice afternoon pick-me-up. Tables are a bit small for a full laptop setup though.
Two Gingers near the Fruit Market — Newer place, really good specialty coffee, and the space is well set up for working. Probably the best wifi of the lot.
Anyone else got recommendations? Ideally somewhere with decent wifi, plug sockets, and staff who don’t mind you being there for a few h
ours.

Absolutely rate Thieving Harry’s. The courtyard is one of the best kept secrets in Hull. I’d add The Sailmaker near the marina — not technically a coffee shop but they do good coffee and it’s dead quiet on weekday mornings. Perfect for getting work done without the background noise of a busy cafe.
