Hull City's 2026 Playoff Chances: What Needs to Happen on the Final Day
Hull City's playoff hopes are still alive heading into the final day of the 2025/26 Championship season — but only just.
After a 2-1 defeat at Charlton on Saturday, the Tigers remain level on points with Wrexham in sixth place. The Welsh side lost 3-1 at champions Coventry on Sunday, meaning the door has not closed. Not yet.
The situation in numbers
Hull City and Wrexham are locked on the same points total. Wrexham currently hold sixth place on goal difference. Hull need to close that gap on the final day.
What Hull City need
Hull host Norwich at the MKM Stadium. A win is the bare minimum. Even then, results elsewhere need to go our way. If Wrexham drop points at home to Middlesbrough while we win, we are in.
Why it is still possible
Middlesbrough have nothing to play for. Wrexham are under enormous pressure. Pressure games at home with the playoff dream on the line have a way of going wrong.
Norwich are already safe and have no relegation or promotion motivation. A Hull City side playing for their season at MKM, with a full crowd behind them, should have enough.
The honest truth
Six games without a win is a terrible run of form to bring into a must-win final day. But football does not care about form tables on days like this.
One game. Everything to play for.
