🐯 MATCH DAY | Ipswich Town vs Hull City | Tuesday 3 March 2025

πŸ“ Portman Road, Ipswich | Kick-off: 19:45

🏟️ The Stage Is Set

Here we go lads. Tuesday night Championship football and it doesn't get much bigger than this right now. We're heading to Portman Road β€” a ground that's seen some of the best football in England over the decades β€” and we're going there in 3rd place with 60 points and absolutely flying.

After what we did to Derby on Tuesday — a brilliant 4-2 win that had the whole stadium rocking — the confidence in this squad must be through the roof right now. Jakirović has got these lads believing, and you can see it in every single performance lately. We are not the same team that scraped through the first 15 games of the season. We are something completely different now.

⚽ About The Opposition

Now let's talk about Ipswich. Yes, they're a Premier League side this season β€” but lads, have you seen their league table lately? They are absolutely struggling at the top level. Relegation is very much on the cards for them and that means their squad will be low on confidence, low on morale, and under massive pressure from their own fans.

Portman Road used to be a fortress. But right now? With a squad that's been getting beaten week in week out in the Premier League? This is exactly the kind of cup tie opportunity we dream about. A Championship side going to a struggling Premier League team β€” we've seen this story before lads, and it doesn't always end the way you'd expect.

Don't let the Premier League badge fool you. On current form, we are the better team.

πŸ“Š The Numbers Behind This Match

🐯 Hull City β€” 3rd in Championship, 60 points from 34 games
πŸ”₯ Last 15 games β€” 27 points, averaging 1.80 pts per game
πŸ“ˆ Season projection at current form β€” 89 points
🏟️ Venue β€” Portman Road
πŸ“… Date β€” Tuesday 3 March 2025
⏰ Kick-off β€” 10:45 PM Turkish Time / 7:45 PM UK Time

Those numbers tell a story lads. We are in form. We are in momentum. And 89 projected points means we are in the automatic promotion conversation whether people want to admit it or not.

πŸ”‘ Key Battles To Watch

Tonight is going to be won or lost in the midfield. Ipswich will try to use the extra quality they've brought in over the summer β€” but we've got the legs, the energy, and most importantly the hunger that a struggling Premier League side simply doesn't have right now.

Watch out for our wide play tonight. When we get the ball out wide quickly and get crosses in early, we are almost unstoppable. If we can do that consistently at Portman Road, three points are absolutely on.

Defensively we need to be solid in the first 20 minutes. Let them have early possession if they want it β€” we've seen this season that we are brilliant on the counter attack and a team chasing the game plays right into our hands.

πŸ’¬ What This Result Means

Let's be completely honest with each other here. Every game from now until May is a six pointer. We are 8 points behind 1st place and 3 points behind 2nd. The automatic promotion spots are right there in front of us.

Win tonight and the whole Championship is looking over their shoulder at us. Drop points and we give the teams above us breathing room. Simple as that.

This squad has shown us what they're capable of. Now it's time to go to Portman Road and show the rest of the Championship that Hull City are serious.

Lads, have a proper look at this table before tonight's game because the stakes could not be higher.

Ipswich are sitting on 60 points from just 33 games β€” one game less than us. They are RIGHT there breathing down our necks.

If they beat us tonight at Portman Road:

❌ Ipswich: 34 games, 63 points β€” jump to 3rd

❌ Hull City: 34 games, 60 points β€” drop to 5th

That's a 3 point swing in one single game. One game that could define our entire season.

And let's not forget β€” Coventry are pulling away at the top with 71 points. The race for 2nd place is absolutely on between us, Middlesbrough and Ipswich. Tonight is a six pointer of the highest order.

We HAVE to win tonight. Not just for the points. But to send a message to every team around us that Hull City are serious about going up.

Keep it tight early on and frustrate them. If we grow into the game, the chances will come. Massive 90 minutes.

This is exactly the kind of away game that shows what we are made of. Ipswich will come out fast and try to pin us back early, especially with their crowd behind them. The first twenty minutes are crucial. If we stay organised and do not concede something cheap, the pressure shifts onto them. I actually think we look more mature recently, especially in how we manage difficult spells. We do not need to dominate possession, we just need to be clinical when it matters. One good transition, one smart finish, and suddenly it becomes our kind of game.

Midfield needs to win the battle. Do that and we have every chance. No sloppy mistakes and we walk away with something.

Feels like a proper statement game. Stay calm, take our chances and silence the crowd. Come on City.

I have a feeling this one could define our run in. These tight away fixtures are where promotion pushes are built. We have dropped silly points before in similar matches and that has to stop now. Concentration, discipline and belief are everything. No switching off at set pieces, no careless passes in our own half. If we play with confidence and back ourselves, we are more than capable of getting a result here. Might not be pretty but at this stage nobody cares about pretty. Just bring the points home.
