Our playoff opponents are confirmed. It's Millwall.
Third place. Dangerous. And we know exactly what they are.
The fixtures:
What happened when we met this season:
The Den, 13 December: One of our best away performances of the season. We went to south London and came away 3-1 winners. Kyle Joseph was brilliant on the night and Hull were clinical throughout.
MKM Stadium, 7 March: A different story. Millwall were the better side on the day, winning 3-1 at our place. Ivanovic and Coburn punished us in the second half after Gelhardt had pulled us level. A reminder that this Millwall side are no pushovers.
One win each. Four goals apiece. Everything to play for.
That balance makes this semi-final genuinely 50-50 and all the more exciting for it.
Why Millwall will be dangerous:
The Den in a playoff semi-final second leg is one of the most intimidating atmospheres in English football. Their crowd can drag results out of nothing. Physically they're one of the strongest sides in the division, and they have quality throughout with Azeez wide and Coburn and Ivanovic as real threats in behind.
Why we should fancy ourselves:
Jakirovic has built a side that is extremely hard to beat. We're organised, disciplined, and dangerous on the break. McBurnie has 20 goals this season and a striker in that kind of form in a two-legged semi-final is priceless. Crucially, we have the first leg at home. A strong MKM performance could change everything before we even get to The Den.
MKM. The Den. Then Wembley. Let's go.
