🐏 PORTSMOUTH vs HULL CITY 🐯

─────────────────────────────────────

Right then. Saturday afternoon. Away day. Fratton Park. One of the loudest, most hostile grounds in the Championship and we're walking into it on the back of a midweek win that we desperately needed.

Portsmouth are in a relegation scrap and they know it. Fratton Park on a Saturday afternoon with their fans desperate for points — it's going to be an absolute cauldron. But you know what? Good. That's exactly the kind of away day that separates the playoff teams from the nearly-men.

We came, we saw, we won on Tuesday. Now let's go do it again.

📊 THE NUMBERS

Portsmouth — Fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Championship. Fratton Park has been their fortress this season but their form has been inconsistent. They need points badly.

Hull City — Fifth in the table, back to winning ways, and now heading south with a bit of swagger. Our away form has actually been decent this season. Time to prove it again.

🔴 THE AWAY END

Fratton Park holds around 2,000 away fans and every single one of them will need to be loud from the first whistle. Portsmouth's home crowd is relentless — they'll try to bully you into mistakes. If our fans match them, we've got a chance. If they don't, it's going to be a long afternoon.

The pitch is tight, the stands are right on top of you, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else in the second tier. It's brilliant. It's terrifying. It's exactly what away days should be.

🚑 INJURY UPDATE

The usual suspects remain doubtful or out. Jakirović will have some decisions to make about whether to go with the same starting XI that got the job done midweek or rotate given the quick turnaround.

Keep an eye on team news before kick off. If Hirakawa is fit, he starts. Simple as that.

📋 WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN

Stay compact early. Portsmouth will come out like a train in the first fifteen minutes — the crowd will demand it. Don't panic, don't give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas, and let them burn themselves out.

Hit them on the counter. They'll push men forward looking for an early goal. The space in behind will be there. Gelhardt and Millar need to be alive to it and ready to run.

Win the second balls. Fratton Park games are scrappy, physical affairs. Whoever dominates the midfield battle controls the game. Hadžiahmetović needs to be everywhere.

Take our chances. We've been creating chances all season. The problem has been putting them away consistently. At a place like this, you don't get many — so when they come, they go in.

🎙️ THE GAFFER WILL SAY:

Something about respecting the occasion, believing in the squad, and taking it one game at a time. You know the drill. We'll read between the lines and assume he's as up for this as we are.

📊 PREDICTION

Portsmouth will make it hard. They always do. But we're a better side and we've got the quality to win this football match.

Prediction: Portsmouth 1–2 Hull City
McBurnie to head one in at the back post. Gelhardt to nick the second on the break. They pull one back and we spend the last ten minutes hanging on for dear life. Because we're Hull City and we don't do things easy.

Really think we can get something from this if we stay compact and calm on the ball. Hull’s defence has been solid lately and I reckon Hayden deserves another start.

I see what you mean. If we keep our shape and stay calm in possession, there’s definitely something there for us. We’ve looked much more organised at the back lately and that gives the whole team confidence.
I’d start Hayden as well. He’s been disciplined, keeps things simple, and adds balance in midfield. In a game like this, that kind of control can make all the difference.
It feels like it could be a tight one, but if we stay patient, we’ve got a real chance.

Absolutely with you on that — if we stay disciplined and calm in possession, we’ve definitely got a chance at Fratton Park. Portsmouth will be desperate at home and their crowd will be loud, but we’ve got quality and recent defensive solidity on our side. Staying compact early and not giving them easy openings will be huge. Hayden’s energy and calmness in midfield could be the difference in those tight moments. If we control the tempo and hit them on the break, I fancy us to nick a result.
Come on you Tigers! 🐯

I’ve got a feeling this will be tight, but I’m backing us. If we stay organised and take our chances when they come, we can edge it. Portsmouth will have their spells, especially early on, but our defence has looked solid and we seem more composed lately.
Going for a 1–2 win to the Tigers. Late winner to send the away end mental.
