I've always driven to away games but the cost of fuel is getting stupid now so I'm thinking about trying the train for some of the easier ones. Is it actually worth it or is it more hassle than it saves?
The obvious advantage is you can have a drink. Driving to an away game and not being able to have a pint feels wrong somehow. Plus no stress about parking and you can relax on the way home instead of staring at the M62 for two hours.
The downsides are the cost if you don't book early, the unreliability of TransPennine Express which seems to cancel services for fun, and the fact that Hull station isn't exactly well connected to everywhere. Getting to some grounds from the nearest station involves another bus or taxi which eats into any savings.
Has anyone got a system for doing away days by train from Hull? Which games are worth training it and which ones are you better off driving?
