I feel like Hull’s pub scene doesn’t get enough credit. We’ve got some cracking boozers in the city centre and I want to know your favourites. Here are mine:
1. Ye Olde White Harte — Arguably the most historic pub in Hull. The plotting room where the English Civil War basically kicked off is upstairs. The atmosphere is unbeatable, especially on a winter evening. Great selection of ales too.
2. The Minerva — Right on the waterfront near the marina. Sit outside on a sunny day with a pint and tell me there’s a better pub view in Yorkshire. You can’t, because there isn’t one.
3. Polar Bear — Hull’s best live music venue disguised as a pub. So many great bands have played here over the years. The upstairs room on a Saturday night is class.
4. The Lion & Key — Classic Old Town pub. Proper traditional, no nonsense, good beer. The kind of place where you go for one pint and leave four hours later.
5. Atom Beers — Bit more modern this one but Hull’s craft beer scene is growing and Atom is leading the charge. Their pale ales are top notch and the taproom is a nice spot.
What’s your top 5? And anyone got hidden gems outside the city centr
e too?

The Minerva in summer is perfection. Absolutely perfection. My only addition would be the Head of Steam near the station — brilliant beer selection and a good spot before or after getting the train. Also the George Hotel on the Land of Green Ginger (best street name in England by the way) is a proper old school boozer worth a visit.
