I know Hull gets a bad rep from people who’ve never actually spent time here, but honestly, I think it’s one of the most underrated cities in England. I’ve lived here my whole life and there’s genuinely nowhere else I’d rather be.
For me, it’s the people. Hull folk are proper friendly — none of that southern coldness where nobody talks to each other. You walk into a pub and within ten minutes someone’s chatting to you like they’ve known you for years. That’s just how we are.
The cost of living is another massive plus. I’ve got mates in Leeds and Sheffield paying nearly double what I pay for a similar house. You can actually afford to own a home here, which is becoming impossible in most of the country.
And since City of Culture in 2017, the city centre has completely transformed. The Fruit Market, Humber Street, the marina area — it’s class. People who haven’t been back to Hull in ten years wouldn’t recognise it.
So what about you lot? What keeps you in Hull, or what made you move here? Let’s hear some positivity for a cha
