Thought it might be useful to have a thread about the practical side of away days. How do you lot usually travel and are there any tips for making it easier?
Driving is the obvious one from Hull because our train connections are useless. Most Championship grounds are within 2 to 3 hours by car which isn't too bad. I usually try to find free parking within a 15 minute walk of the ground because stadium parking is always a rip off and you're stuck in traffic for an hour afterwards.
For the London games I actually think the train is better. Hull to King's Cross is about 2 hours 40 on a good service and then the tube gets you anywhere. If you book in advance you can get it for about 30 quid each way which isn't terrible. Plus you can have a few beers which you can't do driving.
Coach travel with the supporters club is another option. Cheaper than driving when you factor in fuel and parking, someone else does the driving, and the atmosphere on the bus is usually good. Downside is you're stuck to their schedule and some of the coaches have seen better days.
Does anyone have good tips for specific grounds? Parking spots, pubs to avoid, that sort of th
ing?

For anyone going to Leeds, park at one of the park and ride sites and get the bus into town. Trying to park anywhere near Elland Road is a nightmare and the residential streets around the ground are all permit zones now. The park and ride drops you about a ten minute walk from the ground. For Sheffield Wednesday I always park up near the Hillsborough Leisure Centre, free and it's about five minutes walk. For Middlesbrough the Riverside is actually easy, there's loads of parking near the ground because it's in a sort of industrial area.
